Frequently Asked Questions

Micro-Needling

What is micro-needling?

Micro-needling is a collagen induction therapy that creates controlled micro-channels in the skin to stimulate dermal remodeling and support structural skin integrity.

What conditions can micro-needling improve?

Treatment may improve the appearance of:

• Acne scarring
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Textural irregularities
• Enlarged pores
• Mild skin laxity
• Certain forms of hyperpigmentation
• Uneven skin tone

How does micro-needling work?

The controlled micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing response, promoting collagen and elastin production while enhancing cellular turnover.

Is the procedure painful?

A topical anesthetic is applied prior to treatment to ensure comfort. Most patients report minimal discomfort.

How should I prepare for my micro-needling appointment?

To ensure the safest and most effective treatment, please follow these guidelines prior to your appointment:

• Avoid retinoids, tretinoin, exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs), and other active skincare products for 3–5 days prior to treatment
• Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning for 5–7 days prior to treatment
• Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements when possible for 48 hours prior (unless prescribed by your physician)
• Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotions, or sunscreen

Treatment may need to be postponed if there are active infections, open lesions, or inflamed acne in the treatment area.

What is the recovery process like?

Post-treatment erythema (redness) is common for 24–72 hours. Mild tightness, dryness, or flaking may occur as the skin regenerates. Detailed aftercare instructions are provided to support optimal healing.

Is there downtime?

Downtime is typically minimal. Patients are advised to avoid sun exposure, active skincare products, strenuous activity, and heat exposure for a short period following treatment.

How many treatments are recommended?

A series of 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is commonly recommended, depending on individual goals and skin presentation.

When will results be visible?

Initial improvements in skin texture and luminosity may be noticeable within a few weeks. Collagen remodeling continues over several months, with progressive improvement in skin tone and texture.

Is micro-needling safe for all skin types?

When performed by a trained practitioner using appropriate protocols, microneedling is safe for most skin types. A consultation is required to determine candidacy and ensure treatment is appropriate.

Who should not receive micro-needling?

Micro-needling may not be appropriate for individuals with:

• Pregnancy
• Active contagious skin conditions (such as shingles or warts)
• Open wounds, acne pustules, or active skin infections
• Active inflammatory skin disease flare-ups
• Current anticoagulant or blood-thinning therapy
• Active cancer treatment or radiation therapy to the skin within the past year
• Keloid or hypertrophic scar tendencies (keloidal fibroma)
• Recent use of oral isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 3 months
• Discoid lupus or certain autoimmune skin conditions

Treatment should also be postponed if you have received:

• Dermal fillers or Botox within the past 2 weeks

***A consultation will determine whether treatment is appropriate and safe.
